Storming the castle music at its finest. I picture great battles when I listen to this album. One of metals all time great underrated albums. Marky Ramones first band. They should have been on Iron Maiden’s level — just as good if not better imo. Highlights include “Pull Away/So Many Times” and “Chasin’ Ladies”

You can feel the tragic romance in this song. Something perhaps only French people can pull off

You know, a cool guy wearing a leather jacket and slicked back hair but it wasn’t corny? Or maybe it was but it was cool because of that. Cool guy talking about staying up late and chasin’ ladies and falling in love.

One of my what ifs

Incredibly underrated album. Everyone knows Flagpole Sitta but this album is full of bangers. Private Helicopter is an angsty love song that should’ve been in movies. It puts me into a nostalgia for a time that never was and never could have been. I wish the band went on longer, the singer Sean Nelson is an interesting guy that was and is also a cranky opinionated music journalist. When you look up a picture of him this is what he looks like, not like the singer of a rockin band — but that’s why it’s cool. One of the great bands that were but never were in a way. Cursed to remembered as a one hit wonder but they had so much more and much more in them.

But still the best live Dead I’ve heard. I’ve checked out Cornell and Veneta (two of the other highly recd) but don’t hit quite as hard. China Cat Sunflower into I Know Your Rider bangs so hard on Europe 72. I wonder what this audience was like. Does Europe have Deadhead style hippies? I’ve never seen a European wear tie-dye. Their hippies seem like the kinda scary bohemian types you’d see at a chrome wearhouse in the movie XxX with VIN Diesel. Or those twins in the matrix sequels with the bleached dreads. Anyway which other Dead live shows should I scope?

I was wrong about Guns N Roses

This song is unbelievably stupid. Axl has a good voice and the band are good at their instruments, but my adolescent faux praise for this band was misguided and clouded by a want to fit in, but deep in my soul I knew they were bad apart from a few songs. You’ll see bands on the Sunset Strip still trying to be the next Guns N Roses, and I’m not one to tell people what kind of music they should play — but the player hater in me says quietly, “what year is it?”

Trying on purpose to make me cry

Stop it! Music that tries to make you cry on purpose is no good. Elliott Smith makes one cry, but he wasn’t trying to make you cry. Like a great actor stops just short of the tears, Smith does as well. Avett Brothers walk on stage and demand tears. It makes guys in selvage denim cry and talk about their “demons” and “healing”

It’s easy to call James Murphy unc

And perhaps you’d be right. But this song is a warning to every aging hipster — your taste will only get you so far. You can have good taste, and express this wisdom to the younger generation, but ultimately you must make something of substance. Like John Cusack in High Fidelity, being a person whose entire identity is based around having good taste and judging others with bad taste, you will find yourself tortured by the music.

Who is Fernando? A modern day Swedish Don Juan?

Is the song Fernando by the great ABBA about a legendary and debonair Swedish lover in the realm of a Casanova? They sing of him as if a mystical ghost, a lover one can’t even see, an incubus perhaps. Is this Fernando even real? Who is he? We sing of long lost loves as we look to the stars, we see them there. All the potential paths our lives could have gone.
